September 2016 will begin our 10th year of our Parish's Heart & Soul Soup ministry!

Thank You to Mike Roemer and to all who have help make this Ministry such a success!!

Our parish’s Heart & Soul Soup Kitchen Ministry will start again on Sept. 18, 2016. We start preparing food at 10 a.m., serve the meal at Noon, clean up afterwards, and are usually done by 1:30 p.m. If you are interested in just helping to clean up, please come at Noon. For questions, please call Mike Roemer at 472-5886.

- Mike Roemer

As Pope Francis so humbly states:

"To love God and neighbor is not something abstract, but profoundly concrete: it means seeing in every person the face of the Lord to be served, to serve him concretely. And you are, dear brothers and sisters, the face of Jesus." (5/21/13)

Holy Name

Holy Name Society Centennial Celebration

The Holy Name Society will observe the 100th anniversary of its existence at St. Peter Church on Sunday, October 9. Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., followed by a catered reception in the newly remodeled church hall. All current and former members and their families, from both parish sites, are invited to attend. Reservations can be made by calling the parish office at 754-4118.

Over the years, the Holy Name Society has sponsored a variety of activities aimed at strengthening the spiritual and social lives of its members, the parish and the community. In addition to performing spiritual and corporal works of mercy, members have participated in the Stations of the Cross and in spiritual retreats. Many current parishioners can recall the sports breakfasts and split-club dinner dances. The society’s main fundraising event today is the snow-cone sale during Art Festival weekend. Proceeds go to the school to provide financial aid to families in need of assistance.

The society traces its origin to the 13th century, when the Church was confronted by heresy and blasphemers. Its purpose was to promote love and reverence for the holy name of God and Jesus Christ and to suppress false and vulgar speech. The Holy Name Pledge, which members recite at meetings on the second Sunday of the month, says, in part, “I promise to give good example by the regular practice of my faith. In honor of His divine name, I pledge myself against perjury, blasphemy, profanity and obscene speech.”

As the society enters the second century of its existence in our parish, efforts are under way to examine current spiritual and social activities, with an eye toward increasing membership. A new slate of officers will be elected in January to complete the reorganization process. Men of the parish interested in joining the society can contact John Beresny (754-4576), John Gadawski (754-8841) or Linus Ormsby (754-7567).

Children's Liturgy

Children's Liturgy Leaders

We are looking for new members for our Children’s Liturgy team. This ministry is a great opportunity to share God’s Word with the littlest ones of our parish! Each week, one leader takes the group to the Parish Hall during Mass and reads/explains the Gospel to them in a way that they can understand. The Children’s Liturgy runs during 10:30 a.m. Mass at St. Peter’s and we rotate teachers, so we only ask for a once a month commitment and we are all flexible to switch. We can help with preparations for any newcomers. Contact Libby Broderick (545-2143) for more info.

Our next Baptism class will be held on Wednesday
October 12th, 2016

The class begins at 7:00 pm, and is held in St. Peter’s Rectory. Attendance is mandatory for families wishing to baptize their children. Please call the rectory at 754-4118 for any questions you may have and to reserve your place.

Growing in our Faith

One of the very best ways to grow in your faith and your relationship with Jesus is by the practice of Eucharistic Adoration.

What is Eucharistic Adoration?

Eucharistic Adoration is when we spend time in prayer with Jesus in the form of the Blessed Sacrament. You can pray in any Catholic Church or Chapel for a short amount of time or a long amount of time. Jesus could be in a Tabernacle or a Monstrance while we are praying.

What is the Blessed Sacrament?

Once a host has been Consecrated at Mass, we call it the Blessed Sacrament, or the Eucharist, or a Sacred Host, because it is no longer bread but is Jesus’ Body.

What is a Monstrance?

A Monstrance is a special stand that looks like a golden sunburst which holds the Eucharist up high so everyone can see it.

What do you do during Adoration?

Talk to Jesus in your heart about how you love Him, what you are sorry for, ways you want to thank Him, and for things you and other people need. Sit quietly and look at Jesus, and listen to Him with your heart. Pray a Rosary or the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, read a passage from the Bible and reflect on it, or write in your prayer journal.

On the First Friday of each month, St. Peter’s has all day Eucharistic Adoration.
